The following are organisations in Port Moresby which you may contact should you require assistance.

1. Family Support Centre assists children who have been physically, sexually and emotionally abused, women who have been impacted by domestic and sexual violence, rape victims (particularly young girls) and children who have witnessed violence in the family. The Support Centre specializes in trauma counseling, crisis management counseling, and Networking and Referrals.

Location: Within the Port Moresby General Hospital Premises next to the Hospital Canteen with the main door facing the JICA Wing.
Opening times: 24 hour service.

2. Individual Community Rights and Advocacy Forum (ICRAF) provides legal advice to women on their human rights and also specifically to those affected by family violence. For those affected by family violence it offers a refuge centre. ICFAF also offers counseling services.

3. Lifeline PNG offers counseling (on the phone, through letters, face to face and through the media). It also has a women’s refuge centre and offers basic counseling and training courses.

4. Port Moresby City Mission (Haus Ruth) provides counseling (individual, couple, group), temporary accommodation for high risk cases, legal aid and other services (providing information and other support).

At Ela Beach next to the Ela Beach Hotel.
Opening times:
8-4pm. After hours only emergency cases are attended to for those women and children impacted by violence and requiring accommodation.

5. Catholic Family Services (Port Moresby) provides counseling, para-legal documentation of cases, awareness of family violence and child abuse, awareness on social justice issues, workshops o n family violence, integral human development and basic skills training and also provides disaster relief in partnership with Caritas PNG and other donors.

Catholic Family Services is located at 5 Mile Boroko - Next to Loreto Hostel (Opposite Jack Pidik Park) within the Archdiocese of Port Moresby Social and Apostolic Centre.

6. World Vision offers counseling to women and children who have been impacted by violence at their Drop in Centre at Hohola. You need to first make contact with Ms Dorcas Sevua at World Vision Office who will then accordingly refer you to the centre.

World Vision is located in the Southern Cross Building, Ruta Place, Gordons.

7. Sexual Offences Squad (Boroko Police Station): deals with all sexual offences (including domestic violence matters).

Location: At the Boroko Police Station – beneath the Commander’s Office. Ask for Sergeant Tinol Pakipon:

When you contact the Sexual Offences Squad you may also ask to speak to Sergeant Gabriel Haro and Senior Constable Kelly Ikiute.

8. Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee:

The Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee is one of CIMCs 12 sectoral committees, established in 2000. FSVAC was established to work towards reducing the occurrence and suffering caused by physical, sexual and psychological violence especially between family members in the home environment. The FSVAC does this through implementation of the Integrated Long Term Strategy. The Integrated Long Term Strategy (2001-2006) is an outcome of a study conducted in 2001 to analyze the family and sexual violence situation in PNG. The Integrated Long-Term Strategy identifies six (6) areas for the committee to focus its work on.
These are:
1. Institutional strengthening
2. Legal reforms
3. Services for victims
4. Working with perpetrators and potential perpetrators
5. Community prevention and responses
6. Data collection and research


The Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee: provides awareness resources, connects to partner organizations, facilitates training programs (para legal training and basic counseling training to build capacities of organizations) and contributes/participate in research on family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea.
